Ha'a Hula CONNECT
This pre-recorded series of four, hour-long classes is designed to give you a more thorough introduction to hula basics and Hawaiian culture. In addition to acquiring new skills, what you learned in the INTRO class will be reinforced through repetition and supportive instruction from Kumu Andrea.
You'll learn:
- E Ho Mai, a Hawaiian chant for inspiration
- Basic steps: kāholo, lele kāholo, kīholo, hela, sway, and kāholo "around the curve"
- A simple hula sung to an English song called Hanalei Moon, which brings to life the beauty of Hanalei Bay on the island of Kaua'i.
Kumu teaches at a relaxed pace, which supports retention and joy while learning.
Ha'a Hula FOUNDATION
This pre-recorded series of ten, hour-long classes is designed to help you build your foundation in the fundamentals of hula and expose you to the two primary styles of hula: kahiko (ancient) and 'auana (modern). You'll also gain new insight into how to integrate Hawaiian cultural perpectives in everyday life.
Here's what we cover:
- E Ho Mai, a Hawaiian chant for inspiration
- Basic steps practice: kāholo, hela, 'uwehe, lele 'uwehe, lele kāholo, kīholo, lele ka'o
- How to incorporate kahea into your dancing
- Instruction in a hula to a song called Piano Ahiahi, with elements of kahiko and 'auana hula styles.
This course also offers hours of additional video instruction, to help you solidify what you learn.
Ha'a Hula LIFE
This pre-recorded series of twelve, hour-long classes is designed for continuing students to reinforce the foundation of skills and knowledge you built in the proceeding courses.
Here's what we cover:
- E Ho Mai, a Hawaiian chant for inspiration
- Oli Aloha, a Hawaiian chant focusing on five core values of aloha
- Basic steps practice: kāholo, kāholo ilalo/iluna, lele kāholo, hela, 'uwehe, lele 'uwehe, kīholo, lele ka'o, kawelu, ami
- Instruction in a hula kahiko called Liliu'e, which honors Hawai'i's last monarch
- Instruction in a hula 'auana to Nani Ko'olau, a song that shares the delight of a romantic love
- Additional teachings in Hawaiian lifeways
